27 finals for GB’s juniors & seniors at 2013 Acro Euros

The junior and senior British acrobatic teams have got their 2013 European Championship campaigns off to a fantastic start by making nine all-around finals and eighteen individual finals between them. The strong squad battled their way to the top as they performed their balance and dynamic routines looking to take a spot in the all-around and the individual finals. The gymnasts proved once again that Great Britain has world class acrobatic gymnasts and is one of the top nations to beat.

Full results can be found on the official event website.

In the Mixed Pair category, fresh from their World Games victory, Alice Upcott and Dominic Smith topped the group with a total score of 58.935 (29.575 for their balance routine and 29.360 for their dynamic) and look solid heading into all around and balance finals. Teammates, Eleanor Franks and Christopher Rogers also performed in this category and put in fantastic routines to finish with 58.730 and second place all-around with only Alice and Dominic ahead. Sadly however, even though they have proved they are one of the best they will not advance to the all around final due to the one final place per country rule. Their pure talent however shone through in their dynamic routine where they took the top spot with 29.680 and will compete in this individual final ahead of Alice and Dom.

In the Women’s Pair, Danielle Jones and Shanie-Redd Thorne proved why they are not only Britain’s best but ones of the worlds finest, finishing strongly in second place (56.920) to qualify for the all-around final. They scored 29.065 in their balance routine to qualify in first for this and second in dynamic with 27.855.

In the women’s group of Millie Spalding, Elise Matthews and Georgia Lancaster in second with 56.790 (28.100 balance and 28.690 dynamic). Both pairs will advance to the balance and dynamic  individual finals also.

In the junior competition, the British team were equally as strong, making finals in all categories. Again, the one per country rule unfortunately left out the second of the women’s pairs who finished in fifth place.

Mixed Pair - Isabella Montagna and Lewis Walker finished third overall with 55.850 taking 27.800 for their balance routine and 27.800 for dynamic and therefore will compete in these individual finals as well as the all-around.

Women’s Pair’s - Hannah Baughin and Keri Rothwell – Douglas put in a total score of 55.6 to qualify in first place for the all-around final. Their performances of 27.600 in balance and 28.000 in dynamic also see them through to these individual finals.

Amy Cook and Lucy Weir also competed in this category and finished well in fifth place with 53.500 overall (27.450 balance and 26.050 dynamic.) Unfortunately the pair will not advance to finals due to the one final place per country ruling.

Women’s group - Jennifer Bailey, Cicely Irwin and Josie Russell also qualified for their all-around final in second place with 55.950 and again both individual finals (balance 28.100 and dynamic 27.850)
