After several near misses, NSW Swifts finally delivered on their potential to upset the highly fancied Melbourne Vixens 48-39 in Melbourne on Saturday.

Building form in recent weeks after a disappointing season, Swifts posted just their third win from 11 outings against their traditional rivals while proving spoilers in the process. Swifts denied an out-of-sorts Vixens the opportunity to seal a spot in the Finals Series, the Melbourne team now facing a challenging final two rounds of the regular season to ensure their place.

Vixens retained their settled line-up of recent weeks with Karyn Howarth and Tegan Caldwell forming the shooting combination for the home team.

Swifts suffered a major blow after midcourt general Kim Green was ruled out with a hamstring injury resulting in Paige Hadley picking up the centre’s bib, Vanessa Ware playing at wing attack, and Ashlee Weir, wing defence.
