2011 Australian Open: Darebin International Sports Centre, Melbourne
The AO to aid in flood relief

Bowls Australia chief executive officer Neil Dalrymple has confirmed next month's $125,000 Australian Open in Melbourne will double as a fundraiser for the Queensland Premier's Flood Relief Appeal.

With the Southern Hemisphere's biggest lawn bowls event to be staged at the Darebin International Sports Centre from February 13 to 19, Mr Dalrymple said 20% of all ticket sales would be donated to the Appeal, while collection tins would also be set up around the venue to help aid the cause.

"The destruction and devastation that has occurred in Queensland in recent times has impacted every Australian," Mr Dalrymple said.

''Our thoughts and wishes are with all Queenslanders and we urge the lawn bowls community to get behind the Appeal and help in whichever way they can.

"Australians are made of resilient stuff, and we come together in times of tragedy, and I'm sure we will once again.

"Over the coming days we'll discuss what else we can do to help, but for now, I'd urge everyone to donate as much as they can."
