Second Dutch gold for Juliana and Larissa

Lausanne, Switzerland, August 28, 2011 - The 14th women’s and 13th men’s events on the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour and the last of 12 double gender events were played this past week at the $380,000 HP Beach Open-the Hague at Hommerson Beach Stadion in The Hague/Scheveningen, Netherlands.

In the women’s competition, Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca of Brazil won for the sixth time this season and extended their record with their 42nd FIVB Swatch World Tour title together.  This marked the sixth time this year that four different countries were represented in the semifinals.  On the men’s side, Brazilians Pedro Cunha and Ricardo Santos won for the second time in the last three events, defeating Netherlands’ Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil on their home soil.  The men also had four different countries compete in the semifinals, the sixth time that this has happened this year.

The Hague marked the third time in the 12 double gender events that the same country won both the men’s and women’s titles, with Brazil being that country all three times (also accomplished in Rome and Gstaad).  This week, Canada will host the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch Junior World Championships for players under 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, August 31-September 4.

The FIVB Swatch World Tour finishes up the 2011 season for the men in Agadir, Morocco from October 4-9 and in Phuket, Thailand from November 1-6 for the women.
