Köhler ready for tough beach volleyball season
Dusseldorf, Germany, April 2011 – Germany’s Jana Köhler has said she wants her and team mate Julia Sude to become regular competitors in the Main Draw as the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour 2011 gets ready to begin in Brasilia, Brazil next week.
The first event of this year’s circuit kicks off at the Brasilia Open from April 17-22, and Köhler has made it clear that the duo’s intention is to become more of a force on the tour.
"We want the good performances from the Country Quota last season to repeated this year and also to acquire skills and continue to play in the main draw,” Köhler explained to the German Volleyball Federation website last Friday. “We have shown that we arrived there, can win games and that is our goal!"
Köhler also praised the work being put into beach volleyball in Germany, and said that with the improvement in rankings for herself as well as Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig and Katrin Holtwick and Ilka Semmler is a good step for the sport.
With 15 women’s events on the World Tour this year, the 25-year old is savvy top the fact that it will be a tough year.
“The pre-Olympic year is tight, but that goes for all teams,” she added. “We will largely play all the tournaments for us to play in the main draw. The European Championships in Norway in addition to the World Championship are both also major highlights of the season.”
