Holly Standing wins Young Sports Personality award

Kent teenager Holly Standing has won a Young Sports Personality of the Year award for her golfing achievements.

She received her trophy from Hugh Robertson, the Minister for Sports and Olympics, at the Kent Regional News and Media Sports Awards presentation dinner. She was also congratulated by Kent captain and England cricketer Robert Key.

Holly was voted the award winner by readers of the group’s titles across Kent and beat a world champion in Taekwon-Do and a European champion water skier.

Holly, 15,  started golf after her father took her to a taster day and now trains with the English Women’s Golf Association Super Birdies South East Squad. Her home club is Faversham and she is the ladies’ champion at Ashford, where she is also a member. Last season she won the Kent girls’ knockout competition for the Milstede Trophy and played in regional and national events.
