Grand Final – Melbourne Vixens v Adelaide Thunderbirds

Date: Sunday, July 26, 2009

Time: 2.10pm (AEST)

Venue: Hisense Arena, Melbourne

Congratulations to the Adelaide Thunderbirds who tonight earned the final spot in the 2009 ANZ Championship Grand Final against the Melbourne Vixens. The 14 goal Preliminary Final win over the Colourplus Magic has set up an all-Australian Grand Final against the Melbourne Vixens next Sunday afternoon, July 26 at Hisense Arena in Melbourne.

The Thunderbirds led from the outset and steadily increased their lead across all four quarters.

Thunderbirds Coach Jane Woodlands-Thompson is proud of her team who have gone one step further this year, having lost out to the Magic in the Preliminary Final last season.

"The team is very excited and a bit relieved really, everything went to plan tonight which doesn't happen that often in a game" Woodlands-Thompson said.

"The Grand Final will be the first time we have played an Australian team in 6 weeks so it will be a different style of play to defend, we will need to adapt very quickly and keep things very tight."

The Grand Final action will kick off at 2:10pm (AEST), with special guest multiple award winning recording artist and star of television’s It Takes Two, Jade MacRae performing prior to the Grand Final and also sing the Australian National Anthem.
